It’s always right now

“… this moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be. This moment – the one you’re experiencing right now – is the culmination of all the moments you have experienced in the past. This moment is as it is because the entire universe is as it is.”

Deepak Chopra (The seven spiritual laws of success: A practical guide to the fulfilment of your dreams, p.57)

Today’s post will be slightly different and shorter than my usual posts. I want to talk about a tattoo I got today of the quote “It’s always right now” (see picture above). I’m sure someone somewhere has thought or said this quote before, but I thought of this quote on a car ride with my family while on holiday. I heard them talking about how good the weather is “right now”, wanting something to happen “right now”, and being perfectly happy “right now”. So I thought to myself: It’s always right now.

Whatever year, month, day, hour, minute or second we currently find ourselves in, the time is always right now. Whatever we long for to happen in the future, will still happen at a time that will be right now. Whatever has happened in the past happened when we were in the past too. In other words, the only moment that we have any control over is the moment right now. The only moment we ever live in is the moment right now. The present moment. The now.

So often we as human beings tend to forget this. Maybe right now everything isn’t perfect (when is it ever?). Maybe you want something to be different. Or maybe you want the present moment to last forever. But everything changes anyway. Nothing is permanent. So if we don’t fully enjoy the present moment, are we really living? And if we can’t appreciate the present moment, then we should simply stay in it anyway, knowing that it will pass too. And the next moment will also be “right now”.

Stay present, stay mindful ❀
